About Us
Bridport Food Bank is the main Food Bank for Bridport and surrounding villages. It is an important addition to the town, taking a lead in tackling food poverty and its consequences. It provides a safe space for people to come and receive food without judgement or discrimination.
The Food Bank started as Cupboard Love in 2013 in response to an increasing number of people approaching St. Mary's Church for help and support. Those approaching the church were finding themselves unable to buy food for a variety of reasons. Some were out of work or reliant on seasonal and insecure work. Others were in work but unable to feed their families. Others again were street homeless or vulnerably housed.
Since 2013 it has developed from literally a cupboard in the church into a regular weekly service and became a charity in its own right in July 2021. It is still operating out of, though separate to, St. Mary's Church.
In January 2023 we opened a second session operating out of Bridport Youth and Community Centre. This session is open 5pm to 7pm to enable those who cannot visit us on a Wednesday to still access Bridport Food Bank. It is a smaller session, which some people prefer.
Bridport Food Bank relies completely on generous donations from individuals, local businesses and local events in and around Bridport. This amazing community gives food, money and time to ensure we are able to continue to provide support for as long as we will be needed.
